D-League Softball:
Blash & 70s Style Bush - Tonight marks the most pivotal game yet in the summer D-league softball season of the 70s Style Bush. Having reeled off three consecutive victories against the leagues cellar-dwellers, the Bush has positioned itself in playoff contention with a 4-3 record. However, the going gets a bit bumpier for the fourth place Bush tonight as they take on the first place douche squad known as Blash (5-1). Recall that Blash is the team that was overheard referring to 70s Style as overrated during the team's championship run last season. Buckle up, the bad blood runs deep between these teams. Plus, the Bush is lined up for a quick rematch against the Blash in a few weeks time.
Unfortunately, the Bush is going to be fielding a depleted squad this evening. Regulars Matt Hussey, John Yannuzzi and Burt Ritz all have better places to be. San Antonio? Really Yannuzzi? See if they still have my bike in the basement of the Alamo. But capturing the Gold Medal for worst excuses is the usually dependable Joseph Smith who has to go to "Open School Night" this evening. Simply remarkable. Regardless, 70s Style will soldier on, leaning on the rest of the team to pick up the slack. The Locks thinks that happens.
We expect another well pitched game from perennial Cy Young candidate Kevin "KP" Pollock. Behind him, the defense should play to its typical exacting form with major contributions from Jimmy Charlesworth in the outfield and Tim Crvarich at the hot corner. Let's not underestimate the importance of Brien Dirito's work framing pitches behind the plate. He's good for at least two borderline strike calls a game.
As usual, the offensive is the main question mark for the Bush. When the bats are clicking the team is tough to beat. However, there is never any way to predict if the hits will be falling in with this crew. Tonight, they'll be leaning heavily on KP and Sean Grech to set the table and the power bats of Jimmy Charlesworth, Matt Scerri and John G. to knock em in. Also look for timely hits from the Tims (B & C), Sean Grech and Kevin Fordon. Dirito will do his best to pepper both the right and left-field foul lines before sending a screamer or two right up the gut. And let's not forget about Troy "Pink Cadillac" Neves who most certainly has another triple in those tree trunks of his.
When all is said and done, we expect 70s to pick up the clutch hits and make the plays in the field. Tonight represents a huge step toward a spirited title defense. Take the underdog Bush (+123) to pull out the win 10-7. LOCK IT UP
The New Fantasy Football:
For all of you football fans out there, I've been ask to draw some attention to a new format that might interest both FF players and non-FF folks alike. The following is verbatim from the gentlemen organizing the pool (Jim Godwin):
We are starting a special Fantasy Football League that is very simple...it has no draft. There is a list of players by position that you choose from for each week's roster. You can only use a player 3 times during the year...so be careful how you use your picks. It is only $20 total for the entire year, including play-offs and Super Bowl weeks. Let me know if you are in! Also, call me if you have any questions. Lastly, invite anyone else who may want to play.
Now Jim also sent an Excel spreadsheet around that contains all of the rules and the player list. I couldn't figure out how to get it linked here. So, if you're interested in participating, send Jim an email @ jgodwin@aholdusa.com. He can send you the Excel file and answer any questions you have. Sounds like a good time so I hope you will all get involved. LOCK IT UP
