Hot dog. We have a wiener and it is all thanks to the sage advise of Mark Kiefer Borton. The new Locks format is a hit and, more importantly, chock full of winners. Not only did we nail all three of our Unpickable Master Locks yesterday, we posted a tidy 9-4 record and added $41 to the BAT. This was the first solid day in a while and has the Locks feeling like it is back on track.
Updated stats look like this: 211-200 and a BAT of $121. For the newly initiated UMLs, we are 3-0 with a $21 BAT. We going to start keeping track of these stats in the right hand column so they can be easily found and scrutinized.
We have a full day of Sunday baseball, so we're on to the picks:
Unpickable Master Locks:
Cincinnati @ San Francisco - Matt Cain is a big time Locks favorite. Watching this guy pitch is pure enjoyment. In fact, the Locks may drag their ass into S.F. to watch this one live. The Giants seem to be really starting to believe in themselves as a playoff team and are doing the little things it takes to win consistently. With ace #1B on the hill today, we expect that to continue. The Reds lineup should not pose to much of a threat to Cain and his 6-1, 1.98 home stat line. Aaron Harang starts for the Reds and while he is not terrible, he hasn't won a game in his last 13 starts. The Giants lineup will put up at least one nice offensive inning against Harang and Cain will make it stand up. We're picking the Giants minus 1.5 runs (+115) as our first UML of the day. Final score is 6-1. LOCK IT UP
St. Louis @ Pittsburgh - The Cardinals have too many key elements in place to be losing important games against inferior teams in August. With a lineup featuring Fat Albert, Matt Holliday and Ryan Ludwick, all of who are hitting over .400 against today's starter for Pittsburgh (Zack Duke) in their career, a bench that has Professor LaRussa on it, a solid starting rotation and a closer like Ryan Franklin, the Cards are well positioned for a World Series run. The Locks can't see this team slipping up on an August Sunday in the Steel City. Pineiro will pitch well enough here and Cards bats will take Duke deep multiple times. Take St. Louie (-147) to win 5-3. LOCK IT UP
Tampa Bay @ Seattle - TAMPA BITCHES. We have two repeat selections in the UMLs from yesterday. Sometimes that is just the way it goes. Find a team that is hot playing an inferior opponent and ride them the entire series. We think that TB smells blood in the water in Beantown and is ready to pounce in the battle for the wild card. Scott Kazmir has been looking more like his solid self in recent starts and the Rays bats are coming to life. Evan Longoria is due for a monster roll here soon. Seattle throws Dr. Three Name (Ryan Rowland-Smith) at TB and this guys is as inconsistent as they come. We haven't seen anything from him to suggest that he's going to slow the Rays down today. Watch out for a late season run from TB, they have it in them. Take the Rays (-132) to win behind a strong performance from Kazmir. Final score is 7-3. TAMPA BITCHES. LOCK IT UP
REMAINING GAMES:
Phillies (-110) - Moyer kills Marlins
DBacks/Nationals over 9.5 runs (-115)
Astros (-102)
Cubbies (+102) - We love Randy Wells
Mets (-138) - The Johan moneylines are surprisingly low these days
Dodgers (+117)
Orioles plus 1.5 runs (-105)
Tigers (-123)
White Sox minus 1.5 runs (+130)
Athletics (-124)
Rangers/Angels over 9.5 runs (-105)
